Hand Painted Icon of Lord
Theme Description
Depiction of Our Lord Jesus Christ. There are various names for the different depictions we encounter. Chirst the Teacher is used in Western when Christ is holding an open Gospel, inviting us to come learn about Him. The name Pantokrator (Judge of All) is usually reserved for depictions when Chirst has the Gospel book closed, signifying that the time for repentance is over. When they appear the Greek letters 'IC' and 'XC' in the upper corners of the icon are abbreviations of the Greek words for Jesus and Christ.
